The Applications Engineer / Project Manager will process and gather information to make informed quotations. He/she will also launch new projects and manage the scope and processes and ensure all equipments and workflows are met.

Applications Duties & Responsibilities


  • A solid ability to understand a given manufacturing process to estimate the cost to produce a given part from a new design and generate a RFQ (request for quote).
  • Working with functional areas to gather information needed to analyze a process such as, cycle times, scrap, press rates, capital costs, welding times, etc.
  • Working with various vendors to gather material costs, capital equipment cost, tooling cost to capture all material and equipment associated with a quotation.
  • Look at how to best optimize processes to allow the costing to reflect best practices regarding manufacturing and engineering solutions to ensure the cost and quote reflect optimal manufacturing practices.
  • Ability to explain a quotation to an executive level in a professional manner with the confidence that all aspects of the quotation are fully thought through and can be explained.
  • Help develop standard manufacturing process times to help assemble quotation in an expeditious and timely manner.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to manage quotations priorities and timeliness, be self-directed to manage your own time and delegate tasks to ensure the customers quote are delivered on time.
  • Work with estimators to put all the necessary information in a quotation template.


Project Management Duties & Responsibilities


  • Work with cross functional team using an APQP process (Advance Product Quality Planning) to launch a new project, this includes internal tooling, transfer of work, external tooling, and / or new process.
  • Ability to put together a scope of work on a complex process to adequately specify equipment as needed.
  • Ability to manage ECOs, work instructions, process flows, prints. Factory layouts, work instructions, etc. 
  • Ability to review GD&T on prints and data regarding dimensional tolerances to ensure process is capable
  • Ability to manage suppliers and contractors as needed to ensure a successful launch of a project, this includes periodic supplier visits and FATs (factory acceptance tests) on equipment to it functions as specified.
  • Ability to delegate and follow-up on tasks relating to a successful launch of a program
  • Understanding and continuously improving equipment and process capabilities
  • Introducing new technology where needed
  • Working to minimize the “concept to reality” timeline
  • Providing accurate and professional customer communication as it relates project timeliness
  • Be the primary customer, plant and sales liaison during the life of the project
  • Ability to accurate outline capital cost of equipment, infrastructure, tooling and labor to relates to the outcome of the project
  • Introduction of new technologies and methods
  • Providing hands-on manufacturing support and trouble shooting
  • Developing accurate engineering standards and goals
  • Process development of new process and training where needed


Educational Requirements


  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Technology preferred) and 5+ years of manufacturing with 10+ years hands-on experience.
  • Considered: Two-year Technical Degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Electro-Mechanical and Engineering Foundations, Mechanical Design Technology, Metal Technologies, Manufacturing Technology, Computer Science, or similar degrees considered with 10+ years hands-on experience.


Qualifications


  • Experience in the Motor/Transformer industry or one of these areas is highly desirable; stamping, die casting, welding, coating, bonding, automation, project mgt., tool building 
  • Experience with Auto CAD and Solid Works preferred
  • General knowledge of PLCs, machine controls, operation and machine automation
  • Able to read blueprints (GD&T), specifications and documents with technical content
  • Well-versed in Microsoft Office product usage
  • Experience at managing relationships with manufacturing customers
  • Any knowledge of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and / or CRM (Customer Relationship Management) operating systems.
