The Buyer/Planner will be responsible for the purchases of materials and services for the fulfillment of customer orders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Purchase BOM material for fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Purchase subcontracted services for BOM items for fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Schedule in-house slitting operations.
  • Conduct business always with highest standards of personal, professional, and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain close contact with manufacturing, maintenance, quality, engineering, sales, marketing, and finance to provide for them cost effective flow of material.
  • Provide strong support to the Purchasing Organization.


Qualifications


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


  • College Degree, Associates degree required in business or related field.
  • 3-5 years of purchasing/scheduling experience in manufacturing environment desired or related manufacturing experience.
  • Metallurgical background or related experience in steel buying/negotiations.
  • CPM and/or CPIM desirable


TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/LANGUAGE SKILLS


  • Good mathematical and analytical ability.
  • Personal Computer skills – Excel, General ERP/MRP systems, Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY


Responsibilities will include strategic planning, supplier qualifications, sourcing, negotiations, data entry and expediting of materials while interfacing with suppliers and internal customers.


Responsibilities and Authorities

  • Stop production in operation pertaining to this job function scope in the event the process is producing nonconforming product or waste.
  • Positively control nonconforming product and alert supervision and Quality Assurance in the event nonconforming product is discovered.
  • Understand and periodically review documentation pertaining to the job function and request revision of process documentation when appropriate.
  • Issue purchase orders for BOM items.
  • Negotiate pricing as appropriate.
